Adding Waves

All of the waves on the previous page look pretty much the same. To get more interesting graphs, we can add two waves.

In the section below, you can select a function and enter numbers into the three fields for two different waves. For example, if you put a 2 in the first field and a 4 in the second field and a 45 in the third field and click the Start button, you will see the graph of 2 sin(4A + 45), where A represents the current angle.

The third strip chart at the bottom will show you the result of adding the two waves together. Just play around with a variety of numbers and see what you can come up with.

There are other ways to make neat diagrams that show the trails of sine and cosine.
