Continuing in this way, we finish round one's pairing as shown below.

By the way: if there had been an odd number of people in this group, we would have given the last competitor a bye in the first round.

But wait, there's more!

After round one, everyone is still in the tournament. [You have to lose twice to be eliminated.]

This means that we should be able to do the pairing for round two right now before the tournament even starts. Let's see how this works...
