When the Lincoln memorial was first built, the natural lighting made Lincoln look more astonished than majestic. This picture, taken with a flash, shows what it looked like. They had to add lighting to keep the sculpture from scaring small children and animals.
These flags outside the Washington Monument just begged to have their picture taken.
