According to Bob Woodward, interviewed tonight on “60 Minutes”: (See a summary/transcript)

• Saudi Prince Bandar was informed of the Iraq war plans two days before Secretary of State Colin Powell was.
• The Prince promised that Saudi Arabia will lower oil prices in the months preceding the elections.
• When Secretary Powell found out about the plan to go to war, he asked President Bush, “Are you aware of the consequences?”
• When Woodward asked the President if he had talked to his father for advice, President Bush said, “There’s a higher father that I appeal to.”

Well, that explains everything.
