Graphics Revisited

I believe I'm going to have to go on a crusade. I've been spending wasting time in the chat rooms recently, and have gone to visit the home pages of my fellow chatters.

Nearly every one of them has a “pictures page” which takes an incredibly long time to load. It appears that a lot of people either:

If you don't know why these are sins, either see my previous comments on the matter or my guide to effective use of images.

In pursuit of my crusade, I've actually gone to the extent of asking the authors if I might assist by converting the pictures. I convert them to a proper size and format, and email them back to their owners. As a way of explanation, I simply say, “The pictures I send back to you will take up less disk space. If you put them on your site instead of the originals, your pages will display faster and everyone will be happy.” (Me most of all, but I don't say that.)

Politics (again)

I'm still sick of both Bush and Gore. For those who give me the line about the “lesser of two evils,” may I refer you to the wondrous bumper sticker that reads: Cthulhu for President. Why vote for the lesser of two evils?

I am no longer so sure about voting for Ralph Nader. I've skimmed over the Green Party platform, and it seems way too far to the left for my tastes. I agree with most of the positions of the Libertarian party, but every time they are in a public forum, they seem to present their most extreme views. So, once again, I'm looking at Dr. John Hagelin as a possible recipient of my vote in November. I caught the last part of an interview with him on Fox News' “Hannity and Colmes” talk show. Both hosts came to the same conclusion I've come to; that Hagelin is a genuinely nice person. In fact, one of the hosts made a comment to the effect of, “Why is a person as nice as you in politics?” I'll keep you all posted as November approaches.

Let me know what you think.
